Editor: Mrill Ingram
Preparing her for a new role as editor of Ecological Restoration Mrill
brings experience in research into human-environment relationships, in
creating outreach and educational materials around environmental issues
and
also familiarity with the nitty-gritty of magazine production. For the
last five years she has worked at the Environmental Resources Center at
UW-Madison. Her projects there include a study of the use of urban
Integrated Pest Management by professional landscapers, and an analysis
of
how different agricultural policies influence farmers in their
perceptions
and management of their natural environment. Before that she produced
an
environmental science and education ideabook for the Bottle Biology
project
at UW-Madison, and also worked as project coordinator at the
Arizona-Sonora
Desert Museum in Tucson. For her dissertation work in geography she
researched the origin and circulation of different ideas about soil
fertility that are central to organic farming and other alternative
farming
practices. Her master's thesis research focused on the ethnobotany of
two
species of agave plant in central highland Ecuador, and the intricate
web
of cultural and economic relationships binding together the plants, the
people and the land. The central focus of Mrill's research and
educational
efforts has been to contribute to a better understanding of how
cultural
attitudes, policies, technologies and other ways of knowing shape
human-nature relationships.
Associate Editor:
Chris Reyes
Beginning with the Youth Conservation Corps in 1987, Chris has had a
long career in the natural resources field. Four years at Reed College
culminating in a B.A. in biology were followed by a summer on the
revegetation crew of Olympic National Park. After two years in Peace
Corps promoting agroforestry with native tree species in the Republic
of
Panama and four years on a hotshot crew participating in wildfire
suppression and prescribed burning, Chris returned to Wisconsin to
pursue a M.S. in Land Resources, with an emphasis on fire management,
ecological restoration, and invasive species control. Upon graduation,
Chris began working for private restoration companies and joined
Ecological Restoration as editorial assistant in 2006. Chris
is currently a member of the Society for Ecological Restoration, the
Invasive Plants Association of Wisconsin, and the Wisconsin Mycological
Society. When not on the lookout for morels and other tasty items,
collecting specimens to document new invasive species populations, or
attending more fire and burn training, Chris is dreaming about archery
biathlons.
